A Lichfield musician will perform in the city for the first time in a decade later this month.
Charlie Barnes will be at the St Mary’s Centre on 17th August.
The touring musician, who has worked with Bastille for the last four years, will get a rare chance to return to the city and showcase his solo work.
He said: “With my day job, opportunities to perform my own material are few and far between, but I’ve thankfully managed to carve out a small chunk of time to play some solo acoustic concerts.
“I left the city for a decade to attend university in Huddersfield and ended up living in Leeds for a number of years becoming very active in the various local music scenes.
“I started touring the UK and Europe quite extensively, both as a solo act and working with a Manchester based band, Amplifier, and eventually found myself hired as the touring guitarist and backing vocalist for Bastille.
“The busy touring schedule prompted my wife and I to move back home to Lichfield to be closer to family and friends while I’m away.
“I’m very excited to be having my homecoming, so to speak, and especially pleased that it will be in such a beautiful venue.”
Despite being on the road, Charlie has also signed as a solo artist to Superball Music, releasing two albums under the Sony Music-affiliated label.
And he admitted that he wanted his songs to make a mark.
“I’ve never really been interested in stuff that just stays on a level and sits in the background,” he said.
“I like music that really commands your attention and listening, and for me that’s very rarely music that doesn’t have a sense of width to it.
“I’m never happy with the idea of just doing the verse part again and then the chorus part again and cracking on with the next song.
“I always want to explore the ways in which things can continually build and then be knocked down.”
Tickets for Charlie’s show in Lichfield are £9 and can be booked via the St Mary’s Centre website.
