Volunteers lend a hand to support Buddy Bag initiative helping young people fleeing domestic abuse

Volunteers in Lichfield have taken part in a bag packing session to support those fleeing of domestic abuse.

The Buddy Bag Foundation initiative aims to support young people who often leave their homes with very few belongings.

Members of Lichfield Police Cadets, the Juniper Centre and Lichfield Life Church volunteered to help pack 180 bags.

The money for the items was raised through support from Peter Moore of St James’ Place Wealth Management, We Love Lichfield, The Community Foundation for Staffordshire, Tesco, Lichfield Rotary and Burntwood WI.

A spokesperson said: “We raised the £4,500 that was needed plus a further £3,000 towards the next Lichfield pack event.

“Life Church Lichfield were amazing as they gave us a room for free and also some of the young people from the church volunteered on the day.

“The Life Church have also committed to filling and packing a further 30 bags for Buddy Bag Foundation.”
