Passengers have been told a new rail operator will offer more West Coast Main Line seats on services to and from Lichfield Trent Valley.

The pledge came from Rail Minister Chris Heaton-Harris after he was questioned by city MP Michael Fabricant.

First Trenitalia will replace Virgin Trains on the West Coast Main Line later this year.

Mr Heaton-Harris replied to Mr Fabricant’s question in the House of Commons by saying: ““The West Coast Partnership operator will introduce brand new trains to replace the Voyager fleet and the Pendolino fleet will be fully refurbished, improving reliability, WIFI connectivity, luggage space and information systems.

“The introduction of new trains will also increase the number of seats available for passengers across the route, including from Lichfield Trent Valley.

“At least the same number of West Coast services will call at Lichfield Train Valley as today.”

Mr Fabricant said he was pleased with the response from the Minister.

“I will seek to see even more Pendolino services from Lichfield and welcome the news that the existing Pendolino fleet will be refurbished,” he said.

“Combined with the new trains that will be becoming available from London Northwestern trains, this is good news for commuters.”

It’ll still cost an absolute fortune and only be marginally faster than London Northwestern though

More seats maybe but will that mean less legroom. Not much assurance of more trains calling at Lichfield

Michael spends a great deal of time concentrating on Lichfield Trent Valley and the trains to London. It’s almost as if he uses that line himself in order to get to the Houses of Commons and is only really thinking of himself and his own needs.
