Youngsters at an under-threat swimming club in the city have secured promotion.
Lichfield Swimming Club has been based at Friary Grange Leisure Centre, but their pool is currently at risk of closure.
But members of the team aged 12 and under shrugged off the uncertainty to get to the last six in the Junior Midlands League, facing off against the best clubs in the region.
Lichfield Swimmers managed to finish in the top four – a significant result and means they’ll be promoted for the next season to the first division.
Club chair Rachel Bentley said: “This was a fantastic achievement from our young swimmers who performed with inspiration.
“It shows that the future of our club is very bright.
“We hope that the future of swimming in Lichfield is secured so that youngsters will continue to get the chance to shine.”
Friary Grange’s future is set to be decided at a Cabinet meeting of Lichfield District Council next month.
Head coach Amaro Viloria added: “I was really impressed with the swimming, and there were some absolute stand out performances.
“I am so proud of the team and we will continue to build on this performance.”
