Groups in Lichfield and Burntwood can apply for funding to help tackle male mental and physical health issues

Clubs and societies across Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to apply for funding to help tackle male mental and physical health problems through sport and exercise.

GVC Holdings has given the Community Foundation for Staffordshire £50,000 to distribute to organisations who can make a difference across the county.

The foundation is inviting applications for grants of up to £5,000 each for projects that focus on sports and physical activity with the aims to increase participation, build new skills and build community cohesion among men.

Leanne Macpherson, grants manager at The Community Foundation for Staffordshire, said: “We are looking for ideas that will specifically benefit those with mental health issues as a separate initiative to their normal activities that will have a direct impact on those most in need – for example, a community club employing a football coach with mental health training expertise to run special extra evening training sessions.

“We want to see specific activities that will create new opportunities for people, and we are looking forward to hearing from individuals and clubs.”

The closing date for applications is 28th October. Full details and the application form can be found at www.staffsfoundation.org.uk/grants/gvc-onward-fund.
