Chasetown FC’s Staffordshire Senior Cup run is over after they were beaten by Walsall Wood.
The first half wasn’t a classic but there were goalscoring chances at either end.
Wood saw an effort cleared off the line and then keeper Lloyd Ransome was forced into a fingertip save to deny Ben Easthope just before half time.
It was a former Scholar that broke the deadlock for the visitors. A cross from the right was met by Harry Harris who sent the ball back across goal beyond Curtis Pond and into the net.
Wood then added a second with a fine attacking move with quick passes, before a ball to the near post was turned home by Joey Butlin.
Chasetown had their chances during the second half with several shots just off target – Lucas Burnett was just over with a header, Jack Langston was just wide and George Cater had a shot well saved by Ransome.
It was too little too late when Cater reduced the deficit in the 89th minute with a shot from outside the box.
A final free kick pumped into the box by Curtis Pond was scrambled clear by the visitors who celebrated when the final whistle went.
