Lichfield has named as one of the leading areas for recycling in the Midlands.

The city came third on the list for recycling plastics in a survey carried out by The Body Shop.

The table was topped by Stafford with Tamworth in second.

A spokesperson said:

“Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental concerns of our generation, and the UK has made huge progress with 602,493 tonnes of plastic recycled between 2017 and 2018.

“Our changing recycling habits have helped reduce over 600,000 tonnes of plastic in our landscape.

“This plastic contribution has helped the UK to meet a household recycling rate of 43.2% in 2018, which is a staggering 32% more than we were recycling in 2000.”
