Council bosses say they will work closely with a new train operator in a bid to bring maximum benefit for local residents.

Avanti West Coast will take over the West Coast Main Line route – which runs through Lichfield Trent Valley – from Virgin Trains tomorrow (8th December).

Darryl Eyers, Staffordshire County Council’s Director for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills, said the authority were looking to see what improvements might be able to be made for passengers:

“We wish the new operator every success running one of the key components of Staffordshire’s infrastructure.

“The authority will be working regularly with Avanti West Coast to ensure Staffordshire sees the benefit of the promised additional services and to discuss continuing improvements to rail stations in the county.”

  1. Does that mean they hope to persuade them to stop the trains at Trent valley because if they don’t it will do nothing for Lichfield.
