Overnight closures on the A38 in Lichfield to allow for HS2 works to take place are being extended.

HS2 Ltd has informed residents that “recent adverse weather” meant the works would now not be completed until February 2020.

The roadworks are allowing for the creation of an access road for vehicles associated with the controversial high speed rail scheme to access a new compound off the southbound carriageway near Streethay.

Sections of the road are being closed overnight on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, although these will be suspended between 22nd December and 5th January.

A spokesperson for LM, which is carrying out the work on behalf of HS2 Ltd, said:

“Drivers can expect some disruption to traffic and increased traffic on the diversion route.”
