The organisers of an online group set up to help Lichfield residents during coronavirus self-isolation say they are “overwhelmed” by the support being offered.

Claire Knight created the Lichfield Coronavirus Community Support page on Facebook and has already seen more than 250 members sign up in a single day.

People have been keeping others updated on where items are in stock at local stores, as well as offering their time to assist others.

Claire’s partner, Alex James, said the group showed that community spirit was strong in the city.

“It is overwhelming for both Claire and myself to see that so many have joined up in such a small space of time, showing that even in trying and testing times, the community is coming together to offer their help, support and time to perfect strangers.

“This proves to me that in a world where so many terrible things happen and so many atrocities occur, a lot of good does exist and when all of this is done we can be stronger as neighbours, as a community, as a nation and as the collective human race.”

The group is the latest community effort after local residents and councillors set up the #Lichfieldbeafriend intiative.
