Two Matt Gardner goals helped Lichfield City FC to secure their first win of the season.
Ivor Green’s men saw off the challenge of GNP Sports after a defeat on the opening day of the campaign.
City started brightly with Luke Childs forcing a good save from the visiting keeper before sending the rebound wide of the target.
The opening goal came when Kyle Patterson and Joshua Mansell combined for Gardner to head home.
GNP went in search of an equaliser, but Lichfield keeper Adam Jenkins was alert to tip an effort over the bar.
An injury forced a first half change, with Brad Rolston sent on in place of the unfortunate David Boal – and his impact was almost instant after he was sent through one on one with the keeper, but was denied by a smart save.
City almost started the second half in style, but Luke Wright’s header cannoned off the crossbar.
The task got tougher for GNP Sports when they saw one of their centre backs sent off for a second yellow card.
And Lichfield were quick to take advantage of their additional man as Childs fired home into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
City’s third came when Jordan Hunt’s shot was pushed away for Gardner to net from close range.
GNP Sports bagged a consolation with Ryan Murphy netting from the penalty spot.
