Lichfield Cathedral is extending opening times for prayer and reflection in the run-up to Christmas.
From today (3rd December) it will be open:
- Monday to Saturday – 10am-12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4pm
- Sunday – 12.30pm to 4pm.
During these times there will be quiet music playing and spaces for people to light candles.
The Very Revd Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield, said that as the city enters Tier 3 restrictions, it was more important than ever that people had space for reflection and prayer.
“While we are unable to open for our usual visiting times, we recognise that many seek out a quiet place of calm during the often chaotic and stressful festive period.
“We recognise that for many this time of year can be bittersweet as loss is felt more deeply and the strain of the events of 2020 start to take their toll.
“For this reason we made the decision to open a larger area of the cathedral for longer periods set aside for quiet reflection and prayer.”

“As a central point in the city of Lichfield, the cathedral offers hope, peace and a place of rest to the whole community.
“We want people to feel able to enter, rest and pray in the safety and comfort of this magnificent place of worship.”
