Eleven new jobs have been created after a retailer opened a new store in Lichfield.

Central England Co-op’s Fosseway Gate store has been constructed as part of a new development on the Birmingham Road.

Local charity fundraiser Sebbie Hall helped to cut the ribbon on the shop, which features self-service checkouts and a food-to-go section featuring the likes of Insomnia Coffee and Tango Ice Blast.

A collection point for Lichfield Foodbank has also been installed, with store manager Lindsey Kearney marking the opening by making a special donation of essentials equating to 115 meals for people in need.

“It’s great to have finally opened our doors to the local community in Lichfield and to be part of the new development in Birmingham Road which we look forward to seeing grow in the coming months and welcoming our new neighbours.

“All of us here at the new store are proud to be part of such a great community in Lichfield so we are delighted to be able to support Lichfield Foodbank which is offering a lifeline to vulnerable residents and people struggling in these testing times.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank local residents for their patience as work on the store has progressed.

“It’s been long-awaited, but hopefully everyone will enjoy the store as much as we do.”

Lindsey Kearney

The store is now open from 7am to 10pm ever day.

Was the new Co oP originally going to be an M & S? What happened?

Why can’t old Debenham open as M&S Lichfield?

I’d hazard a guess at the reason being because M&S don’t want to, Terrie.

If my memory serves me right, and these days often if fails to, isn’t M&S opening a food hall on the old GKN site at Trent Valley?

M&S closed because it wasnt making enough money to justify the rates for the property. So i wouldnt get your hopes up for it returning anytime soon. The city cant have nice things it seems without the council, destroying it one way or another.
