Councillors have approved the latest details of a new development which will see the creation of a boutique hotel and housing in Lichfield.

Friel Homes had already received planning permission for the scheme for land on Beacon Street near the Angel Croft Hotel.

But Lichfield District Council approved more details of the development at a meeting this week, including a £160,000 contribution to help meet future education needs in the area and the repositioning of a footbridge linking to Beacon Park.

Cllr Deb Baker, Conservative representative for St John’s ward, said she was pleased to see an ongoing engagement between developers and planning officials to help ensure the scheme was able to come to fruition.

“I would like to congratulate planning officers and the applicants about the negotiation on the design and placement of the footbridge – a good job has been done there.”

She added that the discussions needed to be ongoing to ensure the development did not have an adverse impact on the local area.

“I’d reiterate my concern about the palettes used for the large apartment block that will be visible from Beacon Park.

“I urge officers to work with conservation officers to make sure palette is appropriate as can be.”

Other aspects of the scheme that were approved by councillors related to the management of both the link with Beacon Park and the underground car parking being created to serve the proposed apartments.

  1. Doesn’t this just prove that the people of Lichfield are not NIMBYS, do not oppose all developments, and are not unreasonable. The support this scheme has received demonstrates that beautiful developments in the right places will be supported. Are you listening LDC?
