The Lichfield Players will take to the stage later this month when they bring their latest production to the Lichfield Garrick.
I Thought I Heard A Rustling will run at the city theatre from 24th to 28th May.
The show follows an ex-miner turned poet who is appointed writer-in-residence at a library.
Ellen, the senior librarian, soon realises the feckless but charming Geordie is no poet. Despite this, she finds him highly entertaining, much to the disgust of Nutley, an earnest young man who covets the writer-in-residence role.
But the trio find themselves an unlikely but united strike group when the libraries sub-committee proposes demolishing the building.
The play is directed by Sarah Stanley. She said:
“Rehearsals have been challenging over the weeks, with four members of the cast and crew being hit by Covid at various times.
“However, it never ceases to amaze and impress me how we rally round and pull out all the stops to ensure everything comes together.
“I am really enjoying seeing the characters emerge and come to life from the page, and there feels a real buzz around the production.
“It’s a little bit cheeky and irreverent, much like our protagonist himself – but I think people are going to like it.”
