A shake-up in the cabinet at Lichfield District Council has been confirmed by the local authority’s leader.
Cllr Angela Lax will now oversee climate change, ecology and housing, while Cllr Andy Smith will be tasked with the new Lichfield leisure centre.
The changes follow the appointment of Cllr Liz Little to the waste and recycling brief following Cllr Ashley Yeates decision to leave the cabinet.
Cllr Doug Pullen, leader of Lichfield District Council, said:
“We’ve got a busy year ahead. Cllr Smith’s role has been focused purely on driving the new leisure centre forward, while Cllr Lax has been tasked with creating an urban design code – if Government require us to permit housing developments, I want them to be the most sustainable, beautiful communities that they can possibly be.
“With responsibility for ecology and climate change, Cllr Lax will also build on our award-winning work to increase bio-diversity across the district and accelerate our plans for carbon neutrality by 2035.”
Cllr Doug Pullen, Lichfield District Council
Cllr Richard Cox remains in charge of the community engagement portfolio, with Cllr Strachan overseeing our finance and procurement functions.
Deputy leader Cllr Eadie retains responsibility for economic development and the Local Plan.

Deck chairs on the Titanic…
Interesting how Pullen mentions sustainability and aiming to be carbon neutral…..
It begs the question why Eadie chose not to make it compulsory forbpotential developers to have to sign up to a carbon neutral initiative…??
Is this joined up thinking we’ve come to love from LDC??
Here’s the article from last year https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/2021/02/12/councillor-rules-out-forcing-future-housing-developments-in-lichfield-and-burntwood-to-be-carbon-neutral/
Now – how on earth does that sit with Pullen’s carbon neutral and sustainability comment? There is literally no coherent green plan from LDC. If there was, this kind of thing wouldn’t happen – period.
Hi Howard – the Carbon neutrality by 2035 is a goal for Lichfield District Council as an organisation, not for the area covered by Lichfield District. The Organisational Carbon Reduction plan, published earlier this year, identifies how we can start doing this.
We are already looking at a “Lichfield 2050” strategic plan, which will include plans to achieve net zero , but that is going to require a whole host of organisations to come along with us. The urban design code that Cllr Lax is tasked with will include requirements for improved energy efficiency for future developments. This doesn’t go far as carbon neutrality yet, but it will be a significant step forward from where we are today.
Pigs have wings and have just flown past my windows. There are many pre 1930’s houses in the area which would take many thousands to make carbon neutral lived in by those that are struggling to pay bills at the moment especially the pensioner being caned by the Tory elite such as Boris ,process nut nut and the local Tory councillors
@Doug Pullen.
Thanks Doug. Could you explain the rational in Mr Eadie choosing not to force developers to be carbon neutral?
@Howard, the rational is that it will hit the poor old developer’s pockets, and then we won’t be able to cram thousands of homes on our countryside to strangle Lichfield and ruin its character forever. That’s the reason.
A good example of these cllrs empty words. I think Eadie should be stepped down from his role as he is pretty useless, in my opinion.
