An appeal has been launched after a series of fly-tipping incidents left roads blocked across Lichfield.

Crews from Lichfield District Council were called to remove piles of waste on 19th May from Abnalls Lane, Little Pipe Lane near Chorley and Raikes Lane in Shenstone.

Bedding, furniture, timber, textiles and plastic had been dumped.

Councillor Elizabeth Little, cabinet member for waste and recycling, said:

“Fly-tipping causes disruption, is unsightly and impacts on the district’s taxpayers because the rubbish has to be cleared and removed.

“We will go through all the fly-tipped rubbish to look for evidence and prosecute the culprits if they are identified.

“Anyone with information is asked to report it to us as quickly as possible to help us with our investigations.

“We also wish to take this opportunity to remind residents and businesses that they need to ensure that any contractors they use have a waste carrier’s licence.

“The responsibility, or duty of care, is on the person who employs the contractor. This means you could be fined if someone you hire to undertake a house clearance, gardening or building work goes on to illegally dump any of your waste.”

Cllr Liz Little, Lichfield District Council

Imagine if the council allowed trade waste to be disposed of without a waste licence. The additional cost to them to do this surely would be balanced out by the significantly reduced amount spent of sorting out fly tipping?

I had a skip outside my bungalow, I am a wheelchair user and the skip was supplied by Bromford to help me clean out my property after they demolished my garage I had been renting for years but because they collected the rent without maintaining them many of them became in need of repair so they demolished them, so I ended up with the contents of the garage in a temporary tent in the garden and in my bungalow. While the skip was outside fly tippers filled it up and overflowed it, of cause Bromford did nothing and would not replace the skip but also want to charge me to get the excess waste cleaned up that was dumped around the skip and will not supply a replacement.

The human vermin that constantly dump their rubbish anywhere that they feel like it should if caught be named and shamed and then be forced to watch the vehicle that was used crushed in front of them. This would be followed by a huge fine and a warning of a prison sentence if they are stupid enough to fly tip again. At the moment the so called deterrent is too weak.

Fly tipping, yet, potholes everywhere , blue bags unfit for purpose, town centre shops shutting blah , blah , blah,

The only rubbish worth a trip, is the election booth and get rid of this inept run councillors who are costing everyone huge amounts of waste

Just because one has a trade tip licence doesnt mean one will trail to the local tip. Thats like saying people without a driving licence dont drive vehicles!!
