Protesters outside the UAV Engines factory in Shenstone

Campaigners have returned to a Shenstone factory to protest about the manufacture of engines for drones they say are used by the Israeli military.

Representatives of groups including South Staffs Palestine Solidarity, Tamworth and Lichfield Extinction Rebellion, Walsall-Kobar Friendship Association, Stafford-Beit Leqya Friendship Group, West Midlands Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Birmingham Stop the War visited UAV Engines on Lynn Lane yesterday (24th May).

A spokesperson for the protesters said:

“Over the last ten years Elbit have been granted 89 licences to export weapons to Israel, including 25 licenses to this Elbit subsidiary UAV Engines in Shenstone.

“Israel test Elbit’s weapons on the captive population of Gaza and people living under occupation in the rest of Palestine – they then market their weapons as ‘battle tested’.

“We are calling for the factory to be repurposed – we don’t want a factory creating death and destruction in the village.

“We want Shenstone to be home to a factory that makes a positive difference, that enables sustainable transportation and helps us to tackle the climate catastrophe.”

The campaign has also seen leaflets delivered to local homes offering more details about the protests.
