Plans for a new memorial in Alrewas to servicemen and women from the Caribbean have been approved.

The monument, depicting four servicemen and women, will be installed at the National Memorial Arboretum.

The National Caribbean Monument Charity has launched an online fundraising campaign to help fund the project, but it has now moved a step closer after being given the green light by planning officials at Lichfield District Council.

A spokesperson for the charity said:

“On discovering that there is no positive memorial for Caribbean military service personnel at the National Memorial Arboretum, we have embarked on a project to raise awareness and educate the general public.

“This monument will be in recognition of their contributions and sacrifices to Britain and to create a lasting legacy for present and future generations through educational programs in schools, faith groups, community centres and other organisations.”
