A new commander has been appointed to the Lichfield local policing team.

Chief Inspector Paul Cooke will take up the role having worked for more than 20 years at Staffordshire Police in areas such as firearms and safeguarding.

He said the new role was an “exciting” one:

“Every day I learn something new and face a new challenge in policing which can only be addressed through strong partnership and communities working together.

“I’m really keen to get started on this exciting new chapter of my career in Lichfield, working alongside Inspector Karen Green and police colleagues, the local authority and partners to deliver on the priorities for the communities of Lichfield.

“I’ve experienced and learned so much and loved being a police officer. This is an exciting new challenge I’m going to relish.”

Chief Inspector Cooke’s appointment comes as the force implemented a new working model which will see emergency response officers based alongside local policing teams at ten bases – including one at Lichfield – rather than the current three locations used across Staffordshire.
