A Lichfield councillor has switched allegiances and will now represent a new party.
Cllr Barry Gwilt had been one of the Conservative representatives for Fazeley ward at Lichfield District Council since 2019.
But the former chairman of the council is now listed on the local authority’s website as a Reform UK party representative.
The party was founded in 2018 and says changes to the strategy on the economy, public sector, energy strategy and institutions will help to “make Britain great”.
The Reform UK website states:
“The nation faces many challenges, but we can overcome them. To succeed, we need to do Brexit properly. We must grow our way out of the crisis, we cannot tax our way out of it. We must stand up for our core democratic values, our civil liberties, our right to free speech.
“Let’s have a proper immigration policy that works for our country and protects our borders.”

Cllr Gwilt’s switch comes just weeks after the other Conservative representative for Fazeley was forced to stand down after breaching a rule on non-attendance at meetings.
Another one!
Joining the Reform Part in the face of all the evidence that Brexit has brought no discernible benefit is a brave move.
Another fantasist here. We need ‘to do Brexit properly’. Well, we have had six years and this absurd phrase still has no meaning or definition at all. There is a reason for this: there is no ‘proper Brexit’. As all analysis at the time showed – and as has been proved daily since – there is no such thing a proper Brexit. It is a fairy story which allows a few thousand v rich people to profit hugely from paying little tax while the rest of us get screwed and the country goes down economically and socially. What an irrelevant dimwit.
Reform UK (originally Brexit Party) is simply the latest in a long line of Farage’s grifts. It was just a way for him to make money and keep his face in the media.
Isn’t that UKIP by another name ?
Jumping from a sinking ship into one already at the bottom of the sea is always a sensible move. However he will probably get in as there will be no other candidates standing given the number of councillors not seeking re-election. I can’t wait for May to cast my vote…
What does he have to say about this? “The UK government has been asked by the European Court of Human Rights to respond to a number of ‘credible allegations’ brought by a group of cross-party MPs over alleged Russian interference in the Brexit referendum.”
They also claim Boris Johnson unlawfully failed to act following a report by Parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC), which found the Government was “slow to recognise the existence of the threat”.
In a statement on the latest development in the ECtHR case, Bradshaw said: “A number of us have been warning about (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s real intent for more than 10 years
See Pam Ferris isn’t aging well, then.
Rats leaving sinking ship springs to mind. There will be more and it might prove the end of the corrupt and incompetent Tory party once and for all. Nice name – Reform but reform what? Reform 13 years of Tory incompetence or it just another nasty little racist party support by the human monkfish – Farage. Tice will do well in the next election as he plans to run a candidate in every Tory seat so maybe Mickey’s days are numbered, I certainly hope so. Making Brexit work! Jesus, where does one start on the the biggest self inflected wound this country has ever suffered. The Tories will always do what is right for themselves and consideration for others comes second (if at all). This councillor changing party is to be expected and I’m sure more will follow. Good riddance.
