LICHFIELD City secured their fifth league win in a row with a 1-0 victory over Dudley Town.

A Jamie Elkes header in the second half proved the difference in a tight contest at the Trade Tyre Community Stadium.

The hosts burst out of the blocks in the first half as Jack Edwards had back-to-back shots blocked in front of goal, before Matt Funge on the counter struck the side-netting for the visitors.

The Robins nearly pulled ahead in the 28th minute, as a powerful shot from the edge of the area shook the crossbar, but City managed to clear.

Tom Brown then went close to putting the home side in front going into the interval, but his mis-struck effort from Josh Mansell’s cross flew high over the bar.

Skipper Dan Lomas nodded into the Dudley keeper’s gloves from a tight angle as the second half commenced, before Dudley fired wide from a corner.

Lichfield finally took the lead after 53 minutes, as Elkes met a corner kick and headed home past Alex Graham.

Edwards then struck the crossbar from range with a nervy quarter of an hour to go, but neither side could further impact the scoreline as Lichfield held out to extend their lead at the top of the Midland Football League Premier Division table.
