IN wet and miserably cold conditions, Lichfield showed real class in overcoming Tamworth 72-0.

With winds of up to 60mph, the Myrtle Greens gave a masterclass in how to deal with the elements, scoring 12 tries from assured handling and game management skills.

The surface was reasonable, but no-one could recollect such a bitingly cold storm on a rugby pitch.

Despite this, Lichfield raced into an early lead with three tries – and by half time the result was already inevitable with the city side more than 40 points up.

There was a real buzz at the end, keeping Tamworth scoreless needed concentration and effort.

David Mott and Rich Burton contributed three and two tries respectively to top the individual try-scoring chart.

Kai Lucas-Dumolo had the thankless task of taking the conversions and finished with a decent 50% record. Along with a try, he finished with a personal tally of 17 points, as the Myrtle Greens became the highest scorers to date in the league with 435 points.

The city side has now reached the halfway stage of their programme with a record of 11 wins from 11 games, earning 53 points and missing out on only two try bonus points.
