A LOCAL MP has called for a debate in Parliament on access to cancer treatment.
Sarah Edwards has highlighted the issue after Mitch Middleton revealed he could not get the specialist care needed on the NHS.
The MP for Tamworth – which includes Whittington, Shenstone, Fazeley and Stonnall – said that her constituent could not access the care, known as CAR T, due to the cost.
As a result, Mitch is currently trying to raise more than £400,000 in a bid to have the specialist treatment in the UK.
Sarah has now asked the Leader of the House for a debate in Parliament on the licensing of and access to cancer treatment.
The Labour MP said:
“This is a desperately sad situation – and there will be more people who are sadly unable to access the care and treatment they need.
“I encourage people to donate to Mitch’s fundraiser. I will work with Wes Streeting as our new Health Secretary to rebuild our NHS and ensure everyone has access to the cancer treatments they need.”
People can donate via the online fundraising page.
