THE bosses of a Lichfield pub say they have made the “difficult decision” to call last orders on their business.

The BitterSuite on Upper St John Street confirmed the closure of the St John Street venue in a post online.

The owners said the venue had shut last night (13th January).

“Unfortunately, the BitterSuite has become another casualty of the current economic climate and we have had to make the difficult decision to close.

“Though we are all sad, we have to say it’s been a pleasure to meet so many wonderful people and characters, most of whom have become firm friends.

“The whole team has thoroughly enjoyed our time meeting and serving you in our own unique way.

“Thanks for the memories everyone, they will stay with us always.”

The closure comes after a local village recently lost two of its pubs in less than a week.

To say that this is what Labour want total rubbish ! Think you will find that a lot of pubs have suffered over the past few years due to the cost of living crisis which happened to be when the Tories where in Government including crashing the economy

A very sad day indeed. My local since it 1st opened. I’ll miss everything and everyone connected to the pub. I wish Martin, Leon and all the staff every success in the future.

Disappointed to be losing another drinking establishment but can people stop blaming Labour. Pubs were regularly closing down long before Labour gained power, it’s just a convenient excuse. Having spoken to a few people who drink there occasionally apparently people knew it may have to close 6 months ago (before Labour).

This is a shame. A independent business killed off. People saying don’t blame Labour are as short sighted as those only blaming Labour. The economic crisis has been ongoing for years thanks to decades of poor government and poor economy so we voted for Labour in the naive hope they’d do something to help businesses out. They did the exact opposite of help by making it harder and increasing costs. We reap what the government sow. Tories and Labour are destroying this country as we know and love it. I bet our new MP won’t be showing his face in there before it closes.

Nothing to do with politics. It’s to do with not enough customers .
I shy away from pubs now as I have to say , prices of a pint are now getting ridiculous.
Forget the landlords it’s the brewers who are milking them , leaving little margin .

He will be too late Saddler, it closed last Monday.

This is a dreadful shame, as a regular ‘weekender’ who has made a significant contribution to their beer sales over the years I shall miss the place, both staff and regulars alike.

It is worth noting that it was a safe haven for some who may not be entirely comfortable in more lively establishments. Here you were treated by the staff and fellow regulars with courtesy, respect and very often addressed by your first name.

I noted a previous comment re. this being on the cards 6-months ago, I personally had no idea and was genuinely shocked by the news.

I too thank the staff for their impeccable table service over the years and wish them all the best going forward.

A terrible shame, a lovely pub.

I do believe Labour have done their bit to close down businesses with the recent market unrest and of course the national insurance hike for businesses such as this pub.

The Conservatives were not great but Labour are no improvement with a string of bad decisions in the last 6 months.

I wonder what our local MP has to say on the matter? Nothing of worth probably. Too busy following the party line

What a pity it’s gone, Leon and Martin and their respective families and staff put 110% of effort into creating not just a pub, but a safe and secure place where families could be together in a safe, caring environment.

Never heard of the place so they didn’t want customers . You need to advertise your business
