SCHOOLS have been forced to close and homes have been left without water after a burst water pipe in Lichfield.

Nether Stowe School and a number of primary schools in and around Eastern Avenue, including Rocklands School, have closed early as a result of the incident today (20th January).

South Staffs Water say they hope to have the issue resolved by 5pm.

Lichfield MP Dave Robertson said:

“Many constituents have contacted my office about the broken water pipe on Eastern Avenue near the new leisure centre today.

“This has disrupted the water supply to residents and has caused a number of schools to close.

“I have spoken to the construction manager on site and South Staffs Water who say they expect the issue to be resolved by 5pm today.

“I will be contacting South Staffs Water before 5pm for a further update.”

Nether Stowe School said it had opted to close early due to a lack of water.

In a note to parents, the school said:

“As you may be aware there has been an issue locally with water supply. We no longer have access to drinking water here at Nether Stowe as a result. Our kitchens are also not able to cook food for lunch.

“As a result, we have taken to decision to close the school.”
