PEOPLE travelling are being urged to take extra care as high winds blow into Staffordshire.

A yellow weather warning is in place through today (24th January).

Staffordshire County Council said highways teams had already cleared five fallen trees as a result of Storm Eowyn – and are expecting even more as they day goes on.

With another yellow warning in place on Sunday and into Monday for heavy rainfall, people are again being reminded to take extra care.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways Cllr Mark Deaville said:

“We’re experiencing high wind speeds across the county now and expect these to continue through today.

“They will be strong enough to bring down branches and maybe some trees so we’d ask people to drive with care and be vigilant.

“Our teams have already been out clearing trees from roads and are prepared for the rest of the day. People can report fallen trees and debris on our roads on the newly-improved Report It system.

“On Sunday and into Monday, with another weather alert in place for heavy rain, we’d again ask people to take care and drive to the conditions.”
