BURNTWOOD Foodbank has been granted planning permission for to begin using a container at a local church.

The organisation says the unit will help with the preparation of parcels and the operation to support local people in need.

It will be installed at Chasetown Methodist Church on Queens Drive.

A planning statement said:

“The foodbank currently operates from Emmanuel Church – now called LifeSpring Church – but the current facilities are not considered to be adequate for the operation of the service due to the lack of shelter for people waiting to be interviewed and collect their food.

“In October 2024, Chasetown Methodist Church suggested the possibility of moving the storage container on to their car park and offered the use of the church building to provide the required shelter and facilities for clients to use during opening hours.

“The storage container will be used for the storage of food and the preparation of food parcels and for the storage of ancillary equipment.”

The food bank operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays between midday and 2pm.
