A BY-ELECTION candidate says she is looking forward to the opportunity to work with others if she wins a seat on Lichfield City Council.

The vote on 13th February comes following the resignation of Scott Hollingsworth.

Five parties will contest the vote, with Morag Maclean looking to retain the Stowe ward seat for the Liberal Democrats.

She said she would be keen to take a collaborative approach at the city council if elected.

“In my time as a manager in the NHS I have had to balance the interests of many different groups, within and outside the health service. I anticipate that being a City Councillor will require the same approach to problems.

“With that end in view, I am happy to be joining a team of Lib Dem councillors, and working with them, and hopefully adding my experience and the skills I have gained over the years to theirs.

“I do not believe in argument and contradiction for its own sake – it wastes time and money – but there is a place in local government for constructive criticism and opposing viewpoints.

“Ultimately, this will mean working together with other political groupings to find common ground that will benefit everyone, rather than erecting a brick wall that blocks any contrary opinions.”

Paul McDermott, leader of the Liberal Democrat group on the city council, said:

“Morag’s views are ones shared by the whole Lib Dem grouping.

“We are now seeing the benefits of collegiality and cooperation here on the city council – as well as on the district council – and I look forward to working with Morag to help provide a fair deal for all Stowe residents.”

IMHO all Cllrs. should be independent rather than party political. I think far more would be achieved if party politics didn’t get in the way.
