HOLOCAUST Memorial Day has been marked in Burntwood.
The anniversary of the World War Two liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp has seen buildings across the country lit up purple in memory of victims of genocide.
Burntwood Town Council’s offices on Queen Street were among the sites illuminated today (27th January).
Cllr Kathy Coe MBE, chair of the council, said:
“Holocaust Memorial Day is a time for us to reflect on the darkest chapters of human history and to honour the memories of those who suffered and perished.
“It is also a reminder of our shared responsibility to stand against hatred, prejudice and injustice in all its forms.
“In Burntwood, we come together to ensure that the lessons of the past guide us toward a future of unity, compassion, and peace.”
Good to see Burntwood taking part in Holocaust Memorial Day – a day to remember what hate can lead to and how important it is to ensure it is never normalised in our own community.
