PROPOSALS to demolish a house in Upper Longdon and build a new home have been rejected.
The development had been earmarked for the property at Batesway.
The applicant said the change would have seen the creation of “a modern house which reflects the historic character of the existing dwelling”.
But planning chiefs at Lichfield District Council refused to grant planning permission.
A decision notice said:
“The proposed replacement dwelling is materially larger than the one it replaces and therefore represents inappropriate development in the green belt.
“The development also impacts adversely on the ‘openness’ of the green belt in this location given the additional bulk and form of the replacement dwelling.
“The proposed replacement dwelling, by virtue of its design, scale and material choices would not appear subservient within the street scene, resulting in a development which is considered overlarge and visually discordant which neither reflects good design nor does it positively reflect or enhance the character of the location.”
