VOLUNTEERS in Whittington have been bowled over by a grant to help fund new equipment.
The HS2 Community Fund has handed over more than £16,000 to Whittington Bowling Club.
The money was used to purchase new specialist groundskeeping equipment to keep the surface in perfect condition for local players.
A spokesperson said:
“The bowling green in Whittington is a hive of activity every morning as a small, dedicated team carefully maintain the close-cropped grass.
“But over the last couple of seasons, they have been fighting a losing battle to maintain and repair the specialist equipment used.
“However, thanks to the generosity of this grant from the HS2 Community Fund, the club now has two beautiful new machines – an aerator and lawnmower.
“The arrival of the new machines will be welcomed by all members and visiting teams who will be able to play on a top class surface this summer.”
