A LOCAL organisation has highlighted its plans to expand the support it offers to the community during a visit by Lichfield’s MP.

Grace Cares was founded in 2023 and rescues care equipment from landfill before refurbishing and redistributing it affordably to those who need it – and then invests profits to projects supporting older people and unpaid carers.

In the past year, the organisation has helped more than 1,500 people and rescued more than 2,300 care items, including walking frames, wheelchairs and hospital beds.

It has also awarded 16 hardship grants and delivered more than 40 activities such as companionship tea parties.

During his visit, Labour MP Dave Robertson was told about the impact of Grace Cares, as well as the urgent challenges it faces in finding new premises to support its growth.

Hannah Montgomery, co-founder of Grace Cares, said:

“We were delighted to welcome Dave and share how a Lichfield-based project is influencing national care policy.

“We’re not just solving waste and inequality – we’re building a new model for sustainable social care.”

Other issues discussed include work taking place to map local carer support needs and shape future services.

Mr Robertson said:

“Grace Cares is a brilliant example of the kind of innovative, community-driven thinking we need in health and social care.

“Their work in sustainability, support for unpaid carers, and community outreach is not just helping people locally, it has the potential to inform national policy.

“I’m proud to support their vision and will do what I can to help champion their cause in Westminster.”
