PREPARATIONS are in full gallop for the return of the Lichfield Sheriff’s Ride.
The event takes place on 6th September and will see participants on horseback and bicycles.
Organisers have confirmed they will be joined by the Worcestershire Cavalry for this year’s ride.
Support is also coming from Sheriff’s Ride patrons, Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist Sophie Capewell MBE and Jane Holderness-Roddam CVO CBE.
Sheriff of Lichfield, Revd Ian Hayter, will be among those on horseback as he covers the 18-mile boundary – the first Sheriff to do so since 2019.
Nick Sedgwick, Clerk of the Course, said:
“We can’t wait to see our new Sheriff of Lichfield, Revd Ian Hayter, Junior Sheriff Daniel Mannox, riders, cyclists and the Worcestershire Cavalry in Lichfield city centre.
“It will be an amazing sight and I invite everyone to join us outside the Guildhall to watch a spectacular start.”
Horse riders and cyclists have until 31st August to sign up for the ride, which will set off from the Lichfield Guildhall at 9.15am. Details can be found at www.sheriffoflichfield.org.uk.
Sheriff of Lichfield Revd Hayter said:
“I invite people from far and wide to visit Lichfield and be part of this historic community event – the only one of its type in England and Wales.”
Volunteers interesting in supporting the event – which will raise money for Pathway Project – by being a marshal or steward can find out details about how to get involved by emailing colin.ablitt@gmail.com.
