The new crossing

A COUNCILLOR has welcomed the addition of a new crossing for residents as part of a junction upgrade in Lichfield.

The improvements have been made on Eastern Avenue after locals raised concerns.

Cllr Janice Silvester-Hall, cabinet member for visitor economy, ecology and climate change at Lichfield District Council, said she was pleased to see the new pedestrian crossing taking shape having initially been approached about the issue during her time as a member of Staffordshire County Council.

She said:

“It’s fantastic to finally see these road improvements in action.

“It seems a long time since local residents first contacted me with their concerns over the growing use of the junction and the safety of the road users, especially pedestrians.

“These upgrades are once again testament to delivering by working together.”

Local resident Dan Floyd said people living near the site had made their voices heard throughout the process of campaigning for the safety improvements.

He said:

“This is a great improvement and will connect families from Watery Lane to safely access Lichfield.”

Praise be – only 11 months (and counting) to install it!

I wonder if Cllr Janice Silvester-Hall has any idea of how much damage the traffic paralysis caused by the infinity project, along with it’s neighbouring spawn, the Leisure centre project has had on the local economy?

Why has it taken so bloody long ffs..
Seems everything is now based on the new housing estates and that there residents are happy before everyone else…

How many different contractors were involved ?There didnt seem to be much urgency to install such an important highway improvement .
Many weeks seem to have had no work going on at all ….just an observation.

A little premature I feel, it’s not open yet, we still have the temporary traffic lights.

The people that wanted it will probably be too old to use it by the time it’s open

Wait until the Weeford traffic island upgrade to the A38 starts. I think I read in one of these news articles that it will take 89 weeks just to add a new filter lane and traffic lights! It seems to take longer and longer to get out of Lichfield these days….
