CHASETOWN were forced to share the points in a frustrating clash with Trafford.

The Scholars did not get off to a convincing start as the visitors found the net, only to be denied by assistant referee’s flag.

Trafford eventually broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when Brad Byrne netted.

But the scores were level in the 34th minute when Tom Thorley scored.

The second half saw both sides trade chances but fail to find the net as the spoils were shared.

Chasetown boss Jamie Hawkins said it had been a frustrating afternoon for his side.

“We just weren’t quite at the races. There was no lack of effort, but we just weren’t quite as fluid. That first 20 minutes, we were probably fortunate not to be further down.

“But we did get a little bit of a foothold. We had to go a little more direct, try to turn them round, gain a little bit of territory and be able to get our unit higher up the pitch.

“We started the second half much brighter and we probed without really ever creating anything golden.

“Trafford set up to stop us playing and I thought their shape was very effective.”
