THE chair of the local Labour branch says his party’s Government is delivering for residents – but insists there’s much more to come.
Cllr Russ Bragger said that while local change was restricted by the fact Lichfield District Council is Conservative-controlled, the picture nationally was creating benefits for the area.
He also said the election of a Labour MP for Lichfield had helped get a better deal.
Cllr Bragger said:
“It’s early days – and the big black hole in the nation’s finances left by the last Government didn’t help one bit, but already the benefits are there and growing.
“Prescription charges have been frozen, waiting lists are coming down, there are 2,500 more GPs and the new Workers Rights Act gives employees more rights from day one and ends the unfairness of zero hours contracts.”
Cllr Bragger added that the road so far had not been entirely smooth – and admitted that some much-needed change would take longer to implement.
“It’ll take time for people to really feel the improvements that the Labour Government has put in place.
“The health service improvements will take time, and extra trains are some time away – but these are the steps that are starting to make life in our area better.”

An amazing 18 months with so much achieved
You must be living in a time zone – what planet are you on !! Feeling better – this country is on its feet !! You and these idiots who claim to be improving our country- god help our children and grandchildren- legacy we have left them all down !! I’m ashamed 😳
what dream planet does this guy reside on. We are being governed by the most hated group of politicians that has ever been elected. No mention of pensioners, farmers and the removal of our democratic rights. Above all the cancellations of next years local elections is something all of us ought to abhor.
Genuinely baffled he believes this. And I say this as someone who actively voted for this government. Buyers remorse I can confirm!
What an absolute gas lighter. Small businesses are struggling as is the working person. Benefits of being on benefits he means
“The Labour Party is a moral crusade or it is nothing.” Little evidence of Starmer’s Labour being a moral crusade. The people voted for change not for a dull technocrat to manage the same policies better than the Tories.
Unless our MP wants to be the answer to a pub quiz question his party needs to end the failed policies of the last 40 years. End deregulation, privatisation, wild gambling by banks, union-bashing, record levels of
inequality, stagnant wages for most, staggering wealth for a few, foreign money taking over our politics.
Now is no time for timidity, be bold.
Rejoin the single market and customs union.
Finally, stop driving progressives to other parties
NHS figures show 1,770,000 people waited longer than four weeks for a GP appointment in November , according to analysis by the Liberal Democrats. Between September and November 7.6 million patients waited more than four weeks to see a GP up by more than 300,000 compared with the same period last year. Lastest polling today is predicting a total wipeout for the Labour party at the next general election so you can understand why they are trying to delay it.
