FINAL preparations are taking place ahead of the official opening of the new Lichfield Leisure Centre.

The facility has been built at Stychbrook Park and will welcome its first members on 2nd January.

The facility will include a new gym, swimming pool and space for classes, as well as an outdoor all-weather sports pitch.

A spokesperson said:

“This modern, purpose-built facility will offer a fresh, energising space for fitness, wellbeing and family activities.”

The centre will open for a “soft launch” from 2nd January with a full opening on 9th January.

Details of classes can found here, while pool timetables are available here.

Hope they can actually run more than one swimming lesson per month without cancelling

It’s a shame the new pool doesn’t benefit the local community or the local swimming club. I have never known a leisure centre to close at 6 at the weekend. That’s 8 hours a week of lost pool time and revenue for the centre. It’s a shame a City has such a poor sport reputation due to bad management . It’s even more a shame their is no no squash courts at the local leisure which has no forced the club to close. But don’t worry you can always play football as they don’t already take up most the park.

What’s worse the 50+ only swim slot is discrimination to young people who are the future of city and who probably have had to pay more to go. It’s clear the council are prioritising the wrong voters again.

Maybe the MP could help out local clubs and not point at bridges

It looks a very nice facility, for those criticising a lack of kit to pursue their chosen pastime I suggest a quick search on the internet to find a local alternative. The internet offers much more than just the opportunity to whinge-bitch and that’s coming from a member of the generation which are apparently receiving positive discrimination.
