A LOCAL film event will feature a screening of a critically-acclaimed movie focusing on the real life story of a campaigner who helped transform the public’s view of Tourette’s.
I Swear will be shown by Burntwood Afternoon Cinema at Burntwood Memorial Hall at 2pm on 20th January.
The film tells the true story of John Davidson who was the subject of the 1989 documentary John’s Not Mad. It charts his journey from bullied schoolboy to celebrated campaigner who was awarded an MBE for his work.
Cllr Paul Taylor, who helps run Burntwood Afternoon Cinema, said I Swear was a moving watch.
He said:
“As someone who is neurodivergent myself, I found this film incredibly powerful.
“It’s a raw, honest and ultimately uplifting story that does a brilliant job of showing the human being behind the condition.
“It’s a film that fosters genuine understanding, and I hope as many people as possible come to see it.
“The screening is a chance to see one of the most talked-about British films of the year. Come along to our warm and friendly community cinema, where you’ll find good company and a proper cup of tea with biscuits.”
Tickets are £5 and can be booked online via the Lichfield Garrick website or purchased on the door.

This is an excellent offering for Burntwood – led by volunteers, low cost for local people. I thoroughly approve of this initiave. Well done Cllr Taylor and the other volunteers.
