A REPORT has recommended councillors refuse a planning application for the retention of a commercial building.
The site on London Road in Canwell was granted permission in 2019 to be used by a lawnmower sales and servicing business.
But a replacement building has since been constructed – and a report to Lichfield District Council’s planning committee said it was “significantly larger” in scale that the previous one.
The report said:
“The proposal constitutes inappropriate development within the Green Belt. The replacement building is materially larger in footprint, height and mass than the building it replaced and therefore fails to meet the exception for replacement buildings set out in the National Planning Policy Framework.
“The proposed development, by reason of the substantially increased scale of the replacement building, would result in an intensification of use of the site and an associated increase in vehicular movements using the existing access onto London Road.
“The intensified use of the access would give rise to an unacceptable impact on highway safety, to the detriment of all highway users.”
The planning committee will debate the proposals at a meeting on 12th January
