HUNDREDS of homes could be built in Burntwood under new plans.

A screening opinion application has been submitted to Lichfield District Council for a proposed residential development on land north of Rake Hill.

Hourigan Planning will look to ascertain whether an environmental impact assessment would be required as part of a request for full planning permission in the future.

A full outline application is expected to be submitted in the first quarter of 2026 and could see up to 225 new homes built, with 43% of those being affordable.

Properties on the site would be energy efficient and come with an electric vehicle charging point.

Should the scheme progress to full application, it would see access points and infrastructure also built, including a realignment of the existing Meg Lane and Ogley Hay Road junction.

Yet more “nibbling” of our green belt, and where are the extra provisions for local amenities?
Still knowing Lichfield Council this will no doubt get the “nod” of approval?

Absolutely no mention of increase of service infrastructure doctors, dentist, school places, police and fire, let alone the impact on bins collection, water and sewers infrastructure that are already failing on a regular basis along with mobile coverage.
Just a council tax money grab with no thought of the existing residents

Bosh, get em built! It’s nice around the Rake Hill and the Meg lane area.People will like to live there. Plenty of affordable housing is needed in the plans and it should all be fine for everyone.

Much of the likely land around the area has been acquired by local ‘investors’ from the original freeholders, some owned by foreign companies. Many ‘protesters’ are members of parties in favour of such developments, just not by their houses.

All of the above @Alan and @Neil and what about the walkers and dogwalkers who enjoy these quiet lanes every day with their birdsong and pleasant views? Not to mention the congestion that will ensue at Swan Island when all the additional traffic tries to get out on to Cannock Road, more so when the Coulter Lane development is built. Surely there are less intrusive, non-greenbelt alternative locations?

“fine for everyone” what B*****S! What’s fine about having to wait weeks for even a Blood Test? At an already saturated surgery – even though there are already THREE practices? Not to mention the dental practices? Most in Lichfield are now Private only! and what will be different about “affordable” dwellings? Social Housing”? Pocket sized?
