The accent is certainly on accents at an event in Lichfield.

Everyone has an accent, though many of us think we don’t. But how did they come about? Are regional accents dying out as English becomes a global language?

From reconstructing Shakespeare’s accent to the rise and fall of Received Pronunciation, actor Ben Crystal and his linguist father David travel the world in search of the stories of spoken English.

And they talk about their findings in their book You Say Potato, which celebrates the ways in which the English language is spoken and how our accents speak louder than words.

They will reveal much more when they visit the city during Lichfield Literature Festival.

The event at Winterton’s Auctioneers is on October 11 at 11.45am. Tickets are £9 [from the Festival website](http://www.lichfieldfestival.org/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) or the box office on 01543 306271.
