ALREWAS suffered defeat on the road as they went down by 57 runs at Belper Meadows.

The Herons were sent into the field first by their hosts and found early wickets hard to come by as openers Jamie Rowland and Luke Thomas hit 24 and 44 respectively.

But even more frustration was to follow when Sam van Daesdonk eventually removed Rowland as his replacement Shanuka Vithanawasam hit 103 from 99 balls to help his side reach 286-9 in their 50 overs.

Alrewas reached 27 in reply before James Burton was bowled by David Whitely after making 16.

Gareth Woolley and William Hodgkinson top scored for the Herons with knocks of 35 and 44 respectively, but it wasn’t enough as the visitors could only reach 229-9.
