ALREWAS fell short in their run chase as they were beaten at Alvaston and Boulton.

After winning the toss and sending the hosts in to bat, the Herons found early wickets difficult to come by as openers Alex Hughes and Chris McIlroy put on a 100 before the former was caught by James Burton off the bowling of William Hodgkinson on 39.

Number three Phoenix Sherry was run out before McElroy eventually departed when he was trapped lbw by Hodgkinson after a knock of 73 to leave the score on 133-3.

But Alvaston and Boulton skipper Thomas Knight hit an unbeaten 100 as his side eventually closed their 50 overs on 294-4.

The Alrewas response saw them lose two early wickets to slip to 28-2, but half-centuries from Gareth Wooley and Tevyn Walcott helped push the score along to 159-6.

A useful 33 from Freddie Clarke took the Herons past the 200 mark before he was bowled by Alex Hughes.

Alrewas eventually saw their innings finish on 212 when Faren Price was the last wicket to fall.
