A BATTLING performance wasn't enough for Alrewas as they were beaten at Eckington.

The Herons won the toss and sent their hosts in to bat first.

The early wicket of Josh Andrews failed to spark a flurry of wickets as Eckington pushed the score to 95-3.

But a partnership between Kabelo Sekhukhune and James Barwise stretched the total as they made unbeaten scores of 167 and 97 respectively to help their side to a total of 352-3.

Alrewas ambitions of a fightback were dented early on as they slipped to 54-5.

An unbeaten 76 from William Hodgkinson gave a glimmer of hope, but the Herons were eventually bowled out for 230.
