Congestion around an Alrewas petrol station could be eased if new plans are given the green light.

The Ivy Garage, on Main Street, is hoping to expand the number of pumps and move the jet wash facility.

The owners hope the changes will prevent lorries using the station from blocking the road.

“The design has been facilitated by the desire to remove HGVs queuing for fuel on the highway,” a statement supporting the application to Lichfield District Council explained.

“Since the demolition of the showroom, land has become available to accommodate additional pumps for HGV filling.

“The filling station is the only one on the A38 issued with a bunkering licence. This is an important transport facility and the reason the site accommodates a large number of HGVs.

“Currently two HGVs can refuel simultaneously, however this is very much dependent on how many other pumps are occupied.

“HGVs do wait on the sliproad before entering the filling station when a pump is available.”

Residents can have their say on the proposals via [Lichfield District Council’s planning website](http://planning.lichfielddc.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=MUTAPIJEA2000&ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk).
