ALREWAS finally got their season up and running at the fifth attempt as they recorded a first victory of the season at Ticknall.

The hosts won the toss and opted to bat, but saw Luke Harvey caught by Stephen Cole off the bowling of Craig Swinfield after scoring just two.

But fellow opener Tom Wood’s knock of 84 and a 63 from number three Rex Tooley kept the innings on track, while the middle and lower order all contributed runs as Ticknall reached 278-9.

Swinfield was the pick of the Herons bowlers as he took 4-63.

The weather saw Alrewas set a revised target of 176 from 32 overs – and openers James Burton and Gareth Woolley hit 48 and 94 respectively to ensure Alrewas breezed past the home side’s total for the loss of just three wickets.
