# Lichfield passengers urged to help identify man in Birmingham New Street assault probe

Police investigating a suspected sexual assualt at Birmingham New Street railway station are hoping Lichfield passengers can help identify a man they want to speak to.

The man British Transport Police want to speak to

British Transport Police officers have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to trace in connection with the offence which took place at around 5.40pm on June 11.

PC Salim Mohammed said:

> “The victim, a 38-year-old woman, was standing at the foot of the stairs on Platform 2 at Birmingham New Street rail station when a man approached from behind and grabbed her chest.

> “The man apologised and then ran off, leaving the victim shaken, but uninjured. I am urging anyone who recognises the man in this photograph to contact British Transport Police straight away so that we can speak to him in relation to this incident.

> “The man we would like to speak to is described as Asian, aged 30-35, about 5ft 9in, of medium build with short, dark hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt, light blue jeans and white trainers.”

Anyone who recognises the man is asked to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident reference B4/WWA of 27/07/2011, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
