# Auditions planned for Lichfield Garrick Youth Theatre show

An award-winning team of two Lichfield directors is currently planning auditions for a production of Les Miserables – School Edition.

Lichfield Garrick Youth Theatre will present the show next year led by Director Julie Mallaband and Musical Director Oliver Rowe.

The directing duo won awards for LYGT’s Oliver! and Lichfield Operatic Society’s Jekyll and Hyde.

Oliver said: “We are specifically looking for boys aged 12-19 who are interested in one of the many title male roles such as Jean Valjean, Javert and Marius. We aim to have a cast of around 45-50 young people.”

There will be a series of open rehearsals when potential cast members are invited to attend.

“There is a need for a larger number of boys in this production, so please feel free to bring any of your friends along,” said Oliver. “Les Miserables – School Edition requires strong singing and acting capability, as it is a very demanding production vocally with some fantastic character parts.

“There will also be some dancing in a couple of songs, but as mentioned it’s the character we’ll be looking for from every successful cast member from chorus through to lead roles.”

The four open rehearsal dates are:

- October 14, 3pm-5pm at Holy Cross Church Hall, Chapel Lane, Lichfield
- October 17, 7.30pm-9.30pm at Scotch Orchard School, Scotch Orchard Road, Lichfield
- October 28, 3pm-5pm at Holy Cross
- October 31, 7.30pm-9.30pm at a venue to be confirmed.

Auditions will be held on November 4 at Holy Cross and the show week, for which successful cast members will be required in full, is March 31 to April 6, 2013.

During the open meeting on October 14, prospective cast members will be able to find out the plans for the production, meet the production team and also start to learn audition pieces.

Oliver said: “There is no joining fee for LGYT, however we do charge rehearsal fees to cover our costs of venue hires and insurance etc, which is normally around £70 per member. This is only payable after auditions once the show has been cast.”
