REFORM UK says it is tackling the "Tory backlog" of pothole repairs.

The claims come after Staffordshire County Council saw more than 5,000 fixes carried out in September – the first time the milestone has been achieved in a single month.

The party said they had worked to tackle the backlog of road repairs inherited when they took control of the authority in May 2025.

Reform UK said the county council remains on track towards its target of repairing 40,000 potholes by the end of March 2027.

Cllr Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council's cabinet member for strategic highways, said:

> "The repair of over 5,000 potholes in September is yet more proof that our strategy is delivering.
>
> "From day one of a Reform administration, we set out that we would lobby hard for the improved and sustainable funding that Staffordshire deserves, but also that we would work tirelessly to use whatever we have available better and deliver more for the residents of Staffordshire.
>
> "There is still plenty more to do, but we are consistently demonstrating that we can be trusted to do what we say and that we deliver – less talk, more tarmac."

The county council said the combination of additional crews, favourable weather and the use of different repairing methods had allowed the September milestone to be hit.
